I heard a song today, “All I Want Is You” by U2. I liked the song when the album came out, and I remember the first time I ever heard it. I saw the movie “Rattle and Hum” at the movie theater, and I remember that the song played during the credits. I recall staying a bit to listen to the song…and that’s the end of the memory recording. I don’t remember the movie at all, or the night I saw it.
My question is: why do some moments remain, and so many others are lost? Are the memories still there, were they retained? I had heard somewhere that memories aren’t recorded instantly, that they are written to our brains at some point after we experience something. I’ve seen videos where memories are drawn out during hypnosis.
Unfortunately, hypnotizing doesn’t work on me (so I was told).
Are all of our days hidden in our brains? Some people remember every single moment and can recall them at will. I can’t do that, and I wish I could.
I feel like there’s something I am purposely not remembering. But what is it?
Hearing that song was a reminder of something. It’s frustrating to not remember.
